Crochet Lay Flat Make-Up Bag

Flat Crochet Makeup Bag

The crochet lay flat make-up bag or a drawstring flat bag is an easy crochet pattern that was created to help keep your make-up and other small items pulled together.  The beauty of this bag is it was designed to lay flat which will allow you to see all your items at once.

This shallow crochet drawstring bag will help maximize your makeup storage. The crochet drawstring bag mimics the Lay-n- Go makeup bag and is an easy way to access make-up, small toys such as Lego or other items. I love that this pattern gives you the flexibility to design the perfect size bag for your needs.

Below are some steps, in my beginning crochet series, to help you get started with this project:

How to make a magic circle, a chain, a half double crochet stitch and how to make a double crochet stitch.

Tips:
This project can be customized to make a smaller or larger bag. Just complete less increased rounds, for a smaller bag and more increased rounds, for a larger bag.

I placed a round of slip stitches around the top of the bag to make the bag look more finished. This is an optional step.

  1. In some places, what you do on the video for the lay flat makeup bag DOESN’T match what’s in the written pattern. Like the position of the border row towards the end & how many rows come before/after it; the stitch you use for the drawstring holes (written instructions say DC, but you say HDC (half double crochet) in the video; & maybe some other things. This makes doing the project confusing—as in do you follow the written or video instructions in those places?

    1. Oh no, that’s good feedback. I often write my patterns while completing the project and I create the videos later. Let me look at it and I’ll post an update. Sorry for the confusion. Thanks again, I really appreciate the feedback.

  2. Hi, Ahselanne! I’m loving this make-up bag and I think it would make a great last minute Christmas gift. Since I may have to use a different size yarn, is it possible for you to provide the diameter of the finished bag and how tall the sides are? Thank you so much! God bless.
